Vintage Postcard – Free PSE/Photoshop Action – Freebie Friday

The other day I called a Jennifer Ashby, Jennifer Ashby, a  friend from high school who is also a photographer, to pick her brain about all sorts of stuff . One thing she said she was wanting to do was add more of a vintage feel to her some of her photos. I sent her this action as a thank you for all of her help and I thought I’d share it with you. It’s called Vintage Postcard.

This is the original.

This is what the shot looks like after applying Vintage Postcard.

This is what the shot can look like after I took out the color with the channel mixer in Adobe. I prefer a heavier feel to my photos, but the shot can also look like this.

And 9 out of 10 people are going to prefer the lighter look, it just depends on your personal taste. There is a texture in the action so run it before you resize your images. Click here to get your free Vintage Postcard Action and then once you arrive to Media Fire, just click on the “Download Here” on the right side. Good Luck!

Free Hi Res Textutures and Tutorial on How to Use Them in Photoshop

I love to add textures to my pictures and clients love them as well. I shoot most of my own textures but every once in awhile, I won’t be able to find what I am looking for so where do I go?  Free3dstextures is a great place to find free textures, but there are limitations with usage. So I find a look I like and then go out and shoot something that may have a similar feel. For this shot, I started with a rusted barrel as my first texture.
I then ran a few of my own actions, Rich Sepia and Powder Puff, on the texture to give it a look like this:

Playing with your layers palette in Photoshop can give you options for different types of looks to your photos, so I would definitely recommend spending some time experimenting. So I then moved both of these textures and placed them directly over my image. Now I can’t see my image at all, that is until  I go to the top of my layers palette where it says “Normal” and I choose “Softlight” for both layers and this was the end result.

I also added a layer mask and erased away some of the texture on the face so it wouldn’t look so funky, but you can do what ever you like. I have a deatiled tutorial that can walk you through adding textures in Photoshop Elements or the full Photoshop program step by step here. I’ve also added these same textures on my photostream on  flickr so you can try them out yourself. Feel free to use them any way you’d like.

In the end, I have picture that feels like it comes from another place and time, with almost an eerie feeling about it. I LOVE it! It was just what I was hoping for. Good luck with your own experiments.

Freebie Friday – Free Old Red Barn Texture

I love this shot. I took this out at Antelope Island at the Garth Ranch. It’s part of portflio entitled “Quiet and Still Places” I’m slowly putting together. I wanted to keep a distant old time feel to the barn to it so I added a texture  which I call “the old red barn” that I shot there at the ranch as well. I removed the color from mine when I used it, but having it like this will give you the option to do use it either way. You can download a larger version on my flickr account.

How Add Texture to Your Photos in PSE/Photoshop

This type of project is actually a lot easier than it looks. I’ll walk you through how to add texture to your photos step by step here today. This post orginally appeared on  Today’s Mama.  The link to the free texture and border I used in this project from my photostream at flickr.

Beautiful Free Action – Vintage Postcard

This is a fabulous action that will desaturate and soften your photo while adding a light texture and vignette. I LOVE this action. It was originally named “Hawaiian Vintage Postcard”. The example below shows you a before and after. I shot this on the perfect day with just the perfect girl.

You can download this action at  http://www.mediafire.com/file/kjm0hi2qmnj/Vintage Postcard designed by Marcel.zip This action is designed for Photoshop Elements and above. Check back next week as I will be doing a fabulous DIY Mother’s Day gift you can do with your photos. Easy and inexpensive, my favorite kind:)

Timeless

Using textures can add a timeless feel to your images. To create this image, I ran Dreamy Black and White , one of my actions soon to be available in my Shop (Coming May 15). I then added a concrete texture and a grunge boder. As I update all my action packages, I will be adding some unique textures and borders to compliment your images.
